Nail care is a hit in the beauty routine and provides a unique moment of well-being and even self-esteem. In addition, today the beauty market presents products and techniques for each stage, making the step by step more complete and the nails increasingly well cared for.

Below, check out some tips and habits for this moment in your beauty routine, ensuring strong, healthy and beautiful nails!

Step 1: Remove the Nail Polish

Wipe off any nail polish or product residue that is on your nails. To do this, avoid the chemical agents of acetone and bet on a compound-free remover – this helps not to damage the nails or dry out the skin of the hands.

Step 2: Cut and File Your Nails

To prevent your nails from breaking easily, trim their length and file them – always respecting their natural shape. Caution: use a nail buffer (the one to give shine and remove ripples) in moderation, since in excess they can thin and weaken the nails.

Step 3: Cuticle Care

Did you know that cuticles protect the base of the nail against fungi and bacteria? Therefore, the main care for them is hydration!

You can push them with a cuticle pusher or even remove the excess skin, but never forget to keep the area moisturized daily with a hand cream, thus preventing dryness.

Step 4: Applying the Base Coat

The base coat penetrates the nail and prepares it to receive the nail polish. You can bet on the strengthening and nourishing versions, in order to reinforce the health and protection of the nails.

Step 5: Applying the Nail Polish

Choose a good quality nail polish, explore the color options and pick your favorite! Before applying the product, gently move the bottle to mix and even out the color. Avoid shaking the bottle, as this can create bubbles and ruin the enamel.

Then apply two coats to each nail to ensure intense, smudge-free coverage.

Step 6: Applying a Glossy Top Coat

After cleaning the corners with the help of a toothpick, cotton round and nail polish remover, finish the enameling with a product that adds shine, helps in complete drying and increases the durability of the enamel.

What is a must in a at-home manicure kit?

A complete manicure kit at home must have: files, pliers, towel (to support the hands and avoid staining or ruining furniture if any product falls), nail polish remover, a small bowl, scissors, toothpick, cotton rounds, base coat, and strengthener.

Tips for Flawless Nail Polish at Home

  • Apply in the order: base coat, nail polish, and top coat;
  • Do not apply very thick coats of nail polish;
  • Two coats of nail polish are enough (wait for your nails to dry from one coat to the next);
  • Finish with an extra shine, nail dryer spray;
  • The ideal drying time for nail polish is 10 minutes;

Who out there loves this nail care moment at home? Which tip did you get from this post and already want to put into practice?

While most of the world is now in quarantine, it’s left most of with a lot of questions. Many of our questions are yet to be answered, but one of the more minor dilemmas a lot of us are experiencing is how to remove gel nail polish at home. Typically you would just have it done during your salon visit, but since that’s not an option right now, doing it at home will have to do. Luckily removing gel nail polish at home (without causing damage to your nails) is possible, and it’s actually easy—as long as you have the right tools. Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Nail file
  2. Acetone nail polish remover
  3. Coconut oil or olive oil

Once you have these three items, you’re just a few minutes away from gel-free nails—just follow the four steps below.

Step One: File down the top coat.

Since a gel manicure typically consists of a few layers, you’ll want to take your nail file and buff down the top coat of polish. You’ll want to file about half way through and then let the acetone work to remove the rest of the gel. File with even pressure around the nail and stop if you ever get to a point where you feel pain. Make sure not to file too far down (never all the way to your nails) so that you don’t accidentally damage your nail.

Step Two: Soak your nails in acetone.

Part of the double-edged sword of gel nail polish is that it doesn’t easily come off, which is great when you want to go weeks without chipped nails but not so great when trying to remove it. For this reason, regular nail polish remover won’t work on gel manicures—You’ll need pure acetone to free your nails at home. Once you’ve finished step one and buffed down the top layer of gel, soak a cotton ball in acetone and lay it on top of each nail, then wrap each finger in foil to really hold the acetone on there. Wait at least ten minutes for the gel to start to lift.

Step Three: Peel off each nail.

Once your nails have soaked in acetone for at least ten minutes, the gel should start to lift and peel off easily. Don’t force it though—if one nail isn’t coming off easily go ahead and soak it another five minutes until the acetone loosens the gel to a point where you can remove it gently. If you own a cuticle pusher you can also use that to (gently!) help lift the gel polish off of your nail.

Step Four: Treat your nails with oil.

Once all your gel nail polish is removed, your nails will most likely be feeling sensitive for a while. Nourish your nails by applying coconut or olive oil (or nail strengthening oil, if you have it) a few times a day to help moisturize your nail beds. It’s a good idea to take a little break from nail polish to let your nails recover, and once you are ready to paint your nails again using a strengthening base coat is a great way to keep your nails looking healthy.

Typically when you think about spring nail trends, you think florals, pastels, and various shades of pink. This year one of spring’s biggest nail trends is going to take the typical pastel manicure to a whole new level by combining all pastels together into a beautiful rainbow design. We’re seeing various rainbow nail designs pop up all over Instagram, meaning this is a trend that’s about to blow up. Rainbow nails feel like a fresh, fun departure from the usual single-tone nail designs of past spring seasons—and they’ll pair well with virtually any color of clothing you choose to wear. They may seem like they’re hard to match an outfit to, but it’s actually quite the opposite.

Rainbow nail designs of all kinds are starting to trend—from subtle ombrés to rainbow French tips to full color-blocked nails. An ombré French tip like the below feels like a cool, directional way to get in on the rainbow nail trend, while the classic French tip alternating rainbow colors makes for a more subtle way to test it out. If French tips aren’t your thing, try solid-colored nails alternating the colors of the rainbow for each finger for a fun design you could even do on yourself at home. Or if you’re planning to go to a professional artist, a rainbow watercolor design would make beautiful nail art.
