When the sun arrives in Europe, the vibe literally heats up. The islands and beaches are packed, everyone looks for a place in the sun and the excitement takes over. Have you ever heard of Formentera? It is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, a Spanish archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea formed by Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and this little blue pearl.

Formentera is super quiet because it’s the only island without an airport. To get there, you need to take a ferry to Ibiza, the nearby festive piece of land. By the way, combining the two on your itinerary is a great idea. A very busy and a quiet one. A good balance.

Renting a car or a scooter as soon as you arrive at the port of La Savina, the busiest point in Formentera, is essential, since public transport is quite rudimentary. The island has only 25 kilometers from end to end. You can get around all the beaches and points of interest in a single day,  so many people make only one round trip from Ibiza. However, I recommend that you stay two or three days (at least) to make the most of that fluorescent blue water.

The most popular beach is the Platja de Ses Illetes, near the harbour, with beautiful corners of blue and crystal clear waters that look more like swimming pools. But, arrive early because when the parking lot is full you can’t get in. From there, take a boat to Illa de S’Espalmador. Spectacular!

Super tip: make an advance reservation at the Juan Y Andrea beach restaurant in Ses Illetes. It has wonderful seafood and friendly service. You can’t miss it!

Also go to Punta Pedrera to snorkel between the rocks. Other beautiful beaches are Cala Saona, Platja Migjorn, Es Arenals, Es Ram, Sés Platgetes and Platja de Tramuntana.

To see the island from above, climb a few hundred metres from the island’s only elevation and go to Es Mirador. A beautiful view!

The best time to go to Formentera is during the European summer. June is excellent as the crowd has not yet arrived en masse. The months of July, August and early September are very busy. In late September and early October the temperatures are still good for the beach and tourists are gone.

Skin Prep 

Just as with all seasons the preparation of the skin to receive makeup is of extreme importance, especially on hot days. So always remember to clean your skin thoroughly with a soap and special toner for your skin type and moisturize it. Another cool tip for decreasing the appearance of pores and even leaving the skin even more ready to receive the foundation, is to make an ice compress for a few seconds: the high temperature of the ice helps close the pores and keep the skin smoother and soft, not to mention that it will help give that refreshed in the heat!

Don’t forget the Powder

Powder is one of the most important products to hold the make up in hot weather. Bet on your favorite translucent powder and apply to the oily regions of your skin. I like to do the famous “baking” with a damp sponge, applying enough powder and letting it “sit” for a few minutes. With a big brush i take away all the powder and voilà! Matte skin and ready to hold the makeup.

Primer on the Eyes  

Before applying the eyeshadow,don’t forget to apply primer for the eyes, this is a fundamental product to ensure that your smokey does not melt and also it will leave the color of the shadow more prominently.

Fixador de Maquiagem

If even after all these steps above you still want to make sure that the makeup does not come off, apply a setting spray finalize. This type of product has particles that help to fix for a longer time.

Porém o clima mais quente e intenso requer alguns cuidados maiores, principalmente com os cabelos e a pele e no post de hoje vim dar algumas dicas que funcionam muito comigo e ajudam a me manter hidratada e sem deixar de estar bronzeada! Olhem só:

Começando pelas madeixas que sempre são as primeiras a sofrer durante o Verão. Os nossos fios ficam mais sensibilizados e sofrem com a ação agressiva dos fatores externos como sol, sal e cloro, por isso nessa época eu procuro apostar em máscaras hidratantes que possuem proteção contra os raios UVA e UVB e produtos específicos para blindar os fios da água do mar e do cloro da piscina. Outra regra é reforçar a hidratação com as máscaras hidratantes, independente da estação.

Outro produto que não sai da minha nécessaire no Verão é o leave-in com proteção térmica para blindar os fios das altas temperaturas. Quando quero potencializar o resultado umedeço os fios com água termal antes de aplicar o produto. O resultado é incrível!

A dica final, e confesso que a mais difícil pra mim, é diminuir o uso de secadores, chapinhas e babyliss no Verão, afinal as altas temperaturas já danificam, naturalmente, os fios. Uma dica é se jogar nas texturas dos fios e apostar sem medo no messy hair. Fica lindo e combina muito com a estação.

Assim como os cabelos a nossa pele sofre muito também e por isso os cuidados devem ser redobrados, porque o sol e a desidratação podem trazer muitos problemas como queimaduras, envelhecimento precoce, aumentando até mesmo o risco de câncer. Por isso uma das dicas principais é passar muito hidratante, tanto no corpo como no rosto, lembrando sempre de usar produtos específicos para cada área.

O protetor solar também é uso obrigatório o ano inteiro e durante o Verão deve ser passado em toda a área que ficar exposta ao sol. Pra quem estiver curtindo a praia ou piscina é importante aplica-lo cerca de 20 a 30 minutos antes da exposição solar e fazer a renovação a cada 3 horas. Quem deseja ficar bronzeada sem prejudicar a pele pode optar por usar um protetor solar mais fraco, com FPS 4 ou 8, por exemplo, porque ele filtra os raios nocivos do sol e deixam a pele mais bonita, com um tom dourado.

Depois de um dia de praia, não se esqueça de tomar um banho de água doce, de preferência fria, para retirar o sal e areia que ajudam a ressecar a pele. A água fria além de hidratar a pele também deixa o cabelo com um aspecto incrível. Por fim, não tiro da nécessaire minha água termal para borrifar no rosto ao longo do dia e também uma garrafa de água, beber muito líquido nessa estação é fundamental para se manter hidratada.
