How did Crocs come about?

Love it or hate it, Crocs are considered a fashion icon and have different powerful collabs with brands such as Balenciaga, Bad Bunny, Liberty London, Bretman Rock and even Benefit Cosmetics. If in 2010 the Times magazine elected it as “one of the 50 worst inventions in history”, today Crocs is the sales leader in the industry. Let’s learn a little more about the history of this brand?

Founded in 2002, Crocs was created by three sailing friends who were looking for a perfect shoe for use on boats: comfortable, non-slip, and water resistant. In fact, the footwear takes its name from its crocodile-like appearance.

Extremely comfortable, hygienic, and durable, the footwear soon sold out at retail outlets – even though its design divided opinions. Behold: In 2002, Crocs sold 200 pairs of sandals, and by 2017, 300 million people had bought at least one pair!

Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, and Natalie Dormer are some names who are fans of this footwear. Even Prince George was seen wearing a pair of Crocs, which ended up increasing sales by 1500%.

One of the great qualities of Crocs, soon became a disadvantage. Made of a durable material, people did not need new sandals, simply because the old ones would not wear out. Soon, the number of sales plummeted. Later, in addition to collabs with other brands and designers, the company created new footwear models – quite different from the classic sandals.

Summer trend: Crochet Bikini

The crochet bikini is the newest trend for summer 2022 and has already won over different celebrities and fashionistas, such as our muse Camila Coelho, Dua Lipa, Bruna Marquezine and many others. The models are usually super bold and full of attitude, with different cuts, as well as plain, striped, flower, and even … cannabis prints!

Despite the strong trend for this summer, this fashion is not recent and the inspiration comes from the 1960s and 1970s. It was even revived in the 2000s, but arrived in full force at the end of 2020.

In fact, in the fashion world, this more artisanal technique was a hit during the 2022 summer season of Milan Fashion Week. In addition to crochet, brands showed pieces in macramé and knitting on the runways!

Pinterest is the largest online referencing platform for fashion, beauty, home, recipes and etc. In its eighth edition, Pinterest Predicts, presents a report to share what the possible trends will be for the coming year. What do you think is coming next?

How to Style a Micro Crop Top

While 2020 fashion trends may have felt like they came to a complete halt at the beginning of the pandemic, there are a few that have withstood the ever-changing climate this year has thrown at us. Sweat sets are now a staple in most people’s wardrobe and knit sets have been selling out of all the major retails for months. Unique earrings have been a zoom call staple and athletic styles have kept us motivated to move our bodies everyday.

Another major trend we’ve seen take off this year is the micro crop top—a crop top so mini that it’s compared to a bra or swimsuit top. And while this style may seem intimidating at first glance, it’s actually both easy to style and comfortable to wear. Whether it’s a knit sweater-style top or simple and streamlined or ribbed with an interesting texture, a micro crop top adds a modern twist to any look. The key to keeping a micro top looking elevated is to pair it with a bottom that has an ultra-high waist cut.

A high-waisted bottom balances the minimal fabric on top perfectly, creating a silhouette that’s both flattering and interesting. High-waisted trousers always feel directional, while jeans provide a more laid back vibe. During the warmer months we saw high-waisted tailored shorts paired with bra tops of all kinds, usually paired with a sweater or blazer thrown on top. Even your signature sweatpants look instantly pulled together paired with a soft knit bra top.

The most popular way to wear the micro crop top trend has been with an oversize blazer thrown on top. Whether the bottom half consists of shorts, trousers or a skirt, an oversize blazer plays with proportions perfectly. The same idea applies to an oversize jacket or sweater as well—anything with a larger fit will perfectly juxtapose the fitted top and exposed skin. So for a fall outfit that feels quintessentially 2020, grab your favorite micro crop top, add a high-waisted trouser, oversize blazer, and sneakers, and of course a mask.
