YACHT LA PINTA TO SAIL THE GALAPAGOS

The biggest question on a trip to the Galapagos is how to explore the archipelago in the best way. After all, there are 19 small islands and 13 slightly larger ones, of which only 4 are inhabited. And each of them keeps its own secrets. Stay on land or throw yourself into the sea? The answer is easy. If you are not one of those people who easily get seasick, take a cruise! It will be easier to access all the corners of this paradise. How long? As long as you can. Galapagos is unbelievable! What boat? Yacht La Pinta. Perfect!!!

I arrived at Yacht La Pinta after doing a lot of research on the Galapagos. I wanted a boat that was small, safe, comfortable, attentive to the environment and with good safety protocols in this pandemic moment. I found it! The Yacht La Pinta is one of the 3 boats belonging to the company Metropolitan Touring that was created exactly with the objective of helping in the environmental preservation of the archipelago that had been suffering from attacks by pirates.

The boat is super charming, has 24 cabins and capacity for 48 passengers. It was recently renovated and its design is contemporary. The rooms are large and well lit. In the bathroom L’Occitane amenities that I love. In addition, the staff is all very kind. The tours are made in groups of a maximum of 11 people so as not to make the animals uncomfortable. Naturalistic guides accompany and explain everything about the species of the archipelago that are beyond exotic. Hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle, boat ride with glass bottom and snorkeling are among the activities available for the adventure. And what an adventure!

I chose a 5-day tour of the eastern islands of the archipelago and regretted not having stayed twice as long. Galapagos is awesome. Each island has its peculiarities. I started the cruise on the island of Baltra, where the airport is. The first stop was at Plaza Sul Island for a sunset trek. As a company, sea lions, land iguanas and hundreds of birds taking care of their young. An emotion like no other. And at each stop, the scenery changed, the animals showed their differences in terms of adaptation and the surprises only increased. On the island of Santa Fé live iguanas of an orange tone that only exist there. In San Cristobal the stars were the giant tortoises that weigh up to 400 kilos. Walking on the beach of Cerro Brujo, where Darwin landed in 1835 is more than special. On the island of Española we were greeted by a school of dolphins before taking a walk among hundreds of marine iguanas.

You know when it’s time to go and you’re not ready to leave yet? It was like that in the Galápagos. What a dream of a place. A trip that brings a lot of reflection and beautiful teachings.

SCOTLAND, FROM LEGENDS TO LUXURY

Spooky stories, enchanted forests and haunted castles are not lacking in Scotland. From the alleged appearances of the Lake Ness monster, to the strange legends that spread through the streets and pubs of the Scottish capital, everything is a mystery. So much so that the city is reputed to be the most “haunted” in the world. And the many sinister movies that have used those scenes as a backdrop only fuel that fame. Harry Potter, one of the world’s best-known witches was born where? In Edinburgh. Will you face the Scottish bumps? Well, I guarantee it’s worth the saga. Scotland is beautiful and full of personality. Land of Whiskey, of men in kilts, of bagpipes.

Of course, for the experience to be noteworthy, the accommodation needs to be iconic. How about a hotel that has already been frequented by Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor?

The Balmoral is a luxury hotel, by Rocco Forte Hotels, with 187 classic accommodations, in a historic building, of somber colors, stunning, that marks the horizon of Edinburgh for over a hundred years. It is famous for its excellent cuisine. The Number One restaurant has a Michelin star. The Brasserie Prince is more trendy and the popular afternoon tea is served at the Palm Court. In addition, at the Scotch Bar you can try more than 500 types of whiskeys. The face of Scotland.

But, the news is that the hotel has just received five stars from the renowned Forbes Travel Guide. It is the first hotel in Scotland to receive this award. A super honor that ranks the most luxurious properties in the world. The interesting thing is that inspectors stay anonymously for two nights, at least, to evaluate more than 900 items with an emphasis on the service standard to help travelers in their choices around the world. Isn’t that cool?

SERENGETI OR SEYCHELLES?

A real Sofia’s choice! The incredible Serengeti in Tanzania or a blue island in the Seychelles archipelago? These two African destinations with an air of “lost paradise”, are surrounded by untouched nature, are very isolated, have already reopened the doors for visitors to enter and have just won private villas from Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, that is, you will have the possibility to spend a few days with impeccable service, including a butler, but isolated in a residence of the Four Seasons Private Retreats inside the hotels. And now? eeny, meeny, miney, moe … Very difficult choice!

Well, the Four Seasons Serengeti Lodge has just won five new one, two or three bedroom residences for families who want to remain in privacy. It is worth remembering that there is a medical team on duty and guests can book their safari experiences with exclusivity, with as many trips as they want to see herds of elephants, giraffes, buffalos and felines that live on the banks of the Seronera River and the Ngorogoro Crater, where incredible black rhinos live.

Didn’t I say the choice would be difficult? Well, when in doubt… choose them both. That’s what I’ll do as soon as I can travel to Africa.

WHERE CAN WE GO? LAS VENTANAS AL PARAISO!

Moving freely around the world is not yet an absolute reality. Many borders remain closed to tourism and many countries request a Covid-19 test and a two-week quarantine. But, some paradises are already beginning to open cracks for those who venture out of isolation, such as Mexico. Want to know the most exclusive corner of the country? The west coast. And do you want to know where to stay in style? At the fantastic Las Ventanas al Paraíso, in Los Cabos, on the Gulf of California.

Think of an impeccable and surprising hotel in terms of pampering, accommodation, connection with culture, gastronomy, natural beauty and service. Yes. All of this, in one place, which serves as Las Ventanas al Paraiso. The name cannot translate more perfectly what is to come, the hotel opens a real window on Mexico’s most secret paradise. Las Ventanas is one of those hotels that alone justify the trip, be it a romantic trip, with small children or even with your pet. Yes, it is pure luxury and it is pet friendly.

Welcome drinks and many kindnesses accompany the experience from the first minute at the hotel until the farewell. Always with great discretion. You hardly even notice the presence of the staff, but when you least expect it, someone comes up with a spray of thermal water to refresh your face or to clean your glasses, with an ice bucket full of little bottles of water, with a menu of books, and so on… This is not an exaggeration, nor my perception alone, Las Ventanas gained fame for reinventing the concept of luxury service in the hospitality industry.

There are 71 immense accommodations, with tremendous privacy, facing the sea, with super neat Mexican decor and handicrafts produced by artisans in the region. Ah, it is worth remembering that check in is done by “your butler”, in the apartment itself, since long before the pandemic.

The heated infinity pool is the hotel’s highest point, as are the spa and restaurants. I ate the best ceviche of my life. Really, unforgettable. It is also worth trying the drinks made with tequila.

The sea of Cortez that bathes the hotel is not the friendliest. It has a lot of current. But, who needs to enter the sea when they have so many possibilities to live? In fact, by car, you can quickly reach quiet beaches like Playa Chilena and Santa Maria.

Las Ventanas al Paraiso, Rosewood Resort is one of those places to live a magical moment. Suffice it to say that it has earned 5 stars from the acclaimed Forbes Travel Guide for the past five years running. So, don’t waste time and take the tip!

HAGIA SOPHIA WILL BECOME A MOSQUE AGAIN

The city of Istanbul, Turkey, is a kind of connecting bridge between the west and the east, as it has one foot in Europe and the other in Asia. It is vibrant, cosmopolitan and at every corner it tells a story. One of its greatest treasures, and the city’s greatest symbol, is the ancient Byzantine basilica Hagia Sophia built in the 5th century, during the Byzantine Empire, to be the cathedral of Constantinople. It is impressive to think that that gigantic temple, considered the largest in the Byzantine Empire, was built at a time so distant from ours and with such architectural perfection. A tremendous piece of engineering.

But history has its curves there and in 1453, when the Ottoman Turks invaded the Byzantine Empire, Hagia Sophia was transformed into a mosque. Better that way. It wasn’t brought down, like so many other gems of that time. Then, its big pink dome came to live with four minarets. Well … the story doesn’t stop there. In 1934, the church/mosque disputed by Christians and Muslims was transformed into a museum. It began to exhibit symbols of the two religions side by side. There are Christian mosaics coexisting with medallions with inscriptions from the Koran and it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A symbol of the Turkish secular state.

This week, Turkey’s President Erdogan announced that the Hagia Sophia museum will once again function as a mosque and that it will remain open for both Turks and foreigners, Muslims and non-Muslims. There were protests from several countries as Hagia Sophia adds values that transcend religions and unite humanity. The first prayer at the mosque will be held on July 24.

If you can no longer visit the interior of Hagia Sophia, here is a tip to enjoy a wonderful sunset, with the silhouette of the mosque-basilica almost within reach, from the terrace of the Four Seasons Sultanahmet. In fact, this hotel occupies a historic building that served as a prison for intellectuals and politicians, in a very central point of Istanbul.

If you haven’t been to Turkey yet, this is a country that deserves to be visited. Combining the vibrant mood of Istanbul with a bucolic balloon ride in Cappadocia is a nice little fold.

I DREAMED OF YOU … ROME!

We’re plunged to our last hair strand into a tidal wave formed by the pandemic. There goes four months of suffocation and restrictions that life has suddenly imposed on us. Until when? The United States and Brazil, as well as other countries in the Americas, were hit well after Asia, where the tsunami began. So it will still take us a while to breathe again without the risk of “taking a hit”. For now, in the middle of the whirlwind, we can only exercise patience and, who knows, dream!

To my surprise, Rome came to brighten my evening. Vibrant streets, cheerful and talkative people, historical monuments, colorful storefronts, delicious restaurants and those ice creams, which are considered the best in the world, were so clear that they looked real. Rome has surfaced. But what is a dream after all? Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, called dreams “repressed unconscious contents”. My most secret thoughts and desires were trying to say, “Rome! I miss you! I want to see you again! ”.

My love story with Rome is very old. Do you know when you have such intimacy with a place that you already know which streets you want to walk? Where you want to have lunch. What monuments you want to see again. Where you want to stop for coffee. The best tiramisu in town. Favorite ice cream parlor…

I can’t go through Rome without having lunch or a coffee looking at the Colosseum, I love feeling the buzz of people at the Fontana di Trevi while I taste a delicious gelato, I love to see Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. To stay, I always choose the surroundings of Piazza di Spagna (two great options are The Inn & The View at The Spanish Steps and the Hotel de Russie), I never miss a walk through the picturesque neighborhood of Trastevere and I love watching the sunset from the bridge in front of Castel D’Angelo. Ah Rome! This will all pass and soon we will see each other.

IT’S TIME TO TRAVEL VIA STREAMING

If, at this moment, we cannot go to dream destinations, the destinations can reach us through the TV screen. The possibilities are enormous. From America to Asia. Just choose where to go, click on the remote control, and behold, magical stories, with captivating characters, can be lived by the four corners of the world, in places you may never have thought of visiting.

Unorthodox is a Netflix series with only four episodes. It premiered in late March. It is based on the true story of a girl born in an ultra-Orthodox New York Jewish community and raised by her grandparents, Holocaust survivors. After an arranged marriage, she decides to flee to Berlin, where she tries to start her life over. Berlin is a charming city, full of history and worth being seen as a backdrop to this strong and exciting history.

Caliphate leaves our nerves on edge from start to finish. The drama debuted on Netflix in March 2020, with 8 episodes. It was created by a Swedish television group addressing the issue of religious fanaticism and soon became a success. The path of several women crosses on the verge of an Islamic attack on Sweden plotted in Syria. It is shocking. Mainly because it is based on real facts. It’s worth watching to better understand the radicalisms that happen in the world, and also to see the beautiful city of Stockholm and dive into the harsh reality of Syria, a country that I would love to visit but for obvious reasons is out of the question “at the moment”. Maybe in the future.

I hope I have inspired you with these trips through America, Europe and the Middle East.

MOTHER’S DAY AND SUSTAINABILITY ON THE RISE

Mother’s Day is coming up. A date that in 2020 will be celebrated in a very different way than it usually is. Perhaps the affection is from a distance, if you are confined away from your mother. Maybe you can prepare a picnic in the garden or a nice lunch for her. But you may want to plan a post-pandemic getaway to live out good stories with your mother. So it’s worth thinking very responsibly and making good choices when this scare goes away. Sustainable hotels with a focus on preserving the environment, will be the next big thing. I suggest two incredible hotels.

One of them is in Ubud, Indonesia. It’s the Bamboo Indah Hotel. A perfect corner of the world to live days of peace and spirituality, with a great comfort and in contact with nature. The philosophy of the boutique hotel is based on sustainability and has extreme respect for nature in which it was built. Old Balinese houses form the body of the hotel and some accommodations were made in bamboo, integrated into the context. The pools, which are made of volcanic stone, do not receive chemicals in their cleaning process. The energy is solar. The garbage is recycled. The kitchen is supplied by the hotel’s own organic vegetable garden. And the workforce used prioritizes the local community. A very special place!

The other is one of the most sustainable and exclusive hotels I have ever had the privilege of visiting in the world, The Brando. The secret paradise of actor Marlon Brando, on the island of Tetiaroa, in French Polynesia. There, nature is taken very seriously. Electricity is generated by solar panels. The cooling system uses the cold water from the bottom of the sea and is powered by water pressure using very little energy. The hotel is on its way to becoming carbon neutral. In addition, with an unusual system, it has managed to reduce the amount of mosquitoes on the island by more than 90% through sterilization. These are just some interesting points of this phenomenal place.

Two places I’m sure your mom will love to receive as a post-pandemic gift card.

KEUKENHOF TO COLOR THE SOUL

Every year the show repeats itself in the Dutch spring. Thousands of tulip bulbs bloom and enchant the world with their beauty. The Keukenhof Park in Lisse, 40 kilometers from Amsterdam, opens its doors to the public for 50 days from mid-March to May. But in 2020, the coronavirus did the favor of disrupting everything. The Netherlands declared isolation until June 1, so the park will be closed. What a shame!

However, the good news is that we can visit the park by entering Keukenhof.nl. There are several videos and beautiful photos of the park without visitors and with its 7 million flowers giving a show. The show continues! Even if the doors are closed. The tulips are there and are worth visiting virtually.

I hope that next year we will be free of this invisible enemy to visit the Netherlands during the spring. It is one of those places that is worth going to at least once in your life.

For the moment, stay home. Take care of yourself a lot. This too shall pass!

WHAT IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE OF THESE TEN DESTINATIONS TO SPEND YOUR QUARANTINE

Since our diva Camila Coelho is presenting her swimwear collection, let’s play with the imagination at this moment when the world is at a standstill? I will present 10 sunny places for you to choose one of them to spend 30 days in isolation wearing these wonderful recently launched piece. Which one would you choose?

Corsica – a spectacular mountain island in the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to France. It has beautiful beaches and delicious villages like Boniface, the one in the photo. Do you want to know the nickname? Beauty Island. A beautiful place to spend a month in quarantine.

Paraty – a village full of colorful houses and with a super historical heritage of the time of Brazil Colony. This gem is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro with beaches and many quiet waterfalls.

Malta – another great option in the Mediterranean to isolate yourself from the world for 30 days. An island dream. The blue is dazzling and the coast is dramatic, full of rocky cutouts. You can pick it without fear. You will love it!

Mallorca – a Spanish island two hundred kilometers from the coast, which is a hit. It has deserted little beaches, super hidden in the middle of rocky coves and fascinating villages. One of those places that has everything to please.

Porto de Galinhas – one of the most loved paradises on the Brazilian coast. The sea is crystal clear, the water is warm and the natural pools dance according to the tide. You can easily spend a month in total isolation and full of happiness.

Dominican Republic – year-round sunshine, white sand beaches as far as the eye can see, coconut trees guaranteeing that well-deserved shade and that stunning blue to color the days of confinement. Not bad. How about spending a month in Punta Cana?

Virgin Gorda – an island belonging to the British Virgin Islands, full of mysteries, with giant rock formations full of mysticism, in a sea that even looks like a swimming pool. Would you dare?

Saint Barths – this is the most charming little French island in the Caribbean. Glamour does not lack since arriving at the airport by the sea, on the steep slopes that always end in unbelievable beaches of such beauty. Could it be that a month is not enough?

Tahiti – how much power in an archipelago alone. I dare say it is one of the most untouched and beautiful paradises in the world. Each island holds its secrets to seven keys. This photo is from Tahaa. You will not regret spending a month there. I guarantee!

Turks and Caicos – this island I imagine you already know so much from the lenses of our muse Camila who was there last year, as from the posts I’ve already published here. It’s hard to find a more beautiful blue than Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean.
