FOUR CITIES TO ENJOY SWITZERLAND WITH CHILDREN

In the week that our diva Camila Coelho and her husband Ícaro announce the arrival of their first baby, a moment so blessed and covered with love, the conversation could not be other than trips with children. Traveling with the little ones is guaranteed fun. A moment that provides unforgettable family experiences.

As Switzerland is considered one of the safest, most hospitable, and most beautiful countries in Europe, and as its hotels have an excellent infrastructure for families with children, I leave here tips on four cities for you to embark on a fairy tale with your babies.

LUCERNE

The city is small and full of green areas with little squares that make the kids happy. It has very well preserved medieval architecture, including parts of a wall from the 14th century. It is on the edge of a lake full of swans and is surrounded by mountains with snowy peaks that can be reached by boat trips followed by train rides that amuse the kids. At the top of the peaks, the snow is the star. A dream.

ZERMATT

This is one of the most popular ski resorts in Switzerland. It is delightful for both the little ones and the big ones. In the mountains, which have the imposing Matterhorn as a backdrop, the snow will forever invite you to sled, toboggan, or ski. And in the village, where cars aren’t allowed to drive, carriages bring a sense of back in the days that children love.

ENGELBERG

The peaceful village at the foot of Mount Titlis was born blessed by a 12th century Benedictine monastery, which continues to tell its story. Recently the town gained a treasure called Kempinski Palace Engelberg, a hotel with excellent infrastructure to receive children in its super colorful and brand new Kids Club, as well as endless fun in the mountains easily accessible by the first rotating cable car in Europe, the Titlis Rotair.

ZURICH

One of my favorite cities in Switzerland for its tranquility, despite being one of the biggest in the country and being a financial center. Wherever you go, there are always children playing in the playgrounds and on the sidewalks by the crystal-clear lake. It is worth planning a visit to the Lindt chocolate factory, which includes a boat ride in the experience.

A SANCTUARY LODGE CALLED CAIMAN PANTANAL

That Brazil has a privileged nature is no secret. What you may not know is that Pantanal is the largest flooded plain in the world, with a very rich ecosystem where more than 650 species of birds, 300 fish, 150 mammals and 50 amphibians have been identified. Precisely because of this explosion of life – in addition to the spectacular flora – it was declared a World Natural Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. To immerse yourself in this peculiar universe, Caiman Pantanal is the perfect way.

A little more than 30 years ago, Caiman Pantanal opened its doors, by the hands of entrepreneur and environmentalist Roberto Klabin, to be much more than just a hotel. The property is a true ecological sanctuary. It has adopted several projects focused on environmental preservation. The Onçafari is one of them. It was developed in a partnership between Klabin and former pilot Mario Haberfeld to protect jaguars from extinction. The result is fantastic. In ten years, more than 200 jaguars have been registered on the property, and 8 of them have collars with GPS signals so that the species can be studied. If you want to help with the research, you can adopt a jaguar by buying a monitoring collar with a life span of one year, for 30 thousand reais. Now, the Instituto Arara Azul, a beautiful work of the biologist Neiva Guedes, has removed the delicate blue macaws from the list of endangered animals. The monitoring of the birds is done from nest to nest. A work of ants, of inestimable value. It is also worth mentioning the RPPN Dona Aracy, which guarantees the perpetual preservation of the Pantanal biome in an area of 5.6 thousand hectares.

In addition to developing a responsible ecotourism that offers incredible safaris for the sighting of jaguars, tapirs, Pantanal deer, anteaters, tuiuiús, capybaras, caimans, alligators, blue macaws and many other species, Caiman Pantanal has a sophisticated hotel structure, from the accommodations to the gastronomy. During the pandemic the headquarters was totally renovated. The “Casa Caiman” reopened its doors in May 2021 with 18 charming suites, swimming pool, hammocks, fireplace room, bar and restaurant. For closed groups, the property offers two other independent villas “Cordilheira”, with 5 accommodations, and “Baiazinha”, with 6, a few kilometers from the main house. The property is located in the rural area of Miranda, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Access can be made by car from Campo Grande (236 km), from Bonito (160 km), or by turbo propeller airplane which descends on a private approved landing strip.

It is one of those must-see destinations in Brazil.

FUSO CONCEPT IS THE NEW HOTSPOT IN FLORIANÓPOLIS

For some time now, Jurerê Internacional beach, in Santa Catarina, has been among the hottest beaches in the Brazilian summer. And now the experience promises to be even more sophisticated with the arrival of the Fuso Concept hotel.

To start the conversation, its location is more than privileged, between the trendy Jurerê Internacional and the calmness of Praia do Forte beach, on a plot of 7 thousand square meters, near Fortaleza da Ponta Grossa, a historical area that dates from the 18th century and is protected by IPHAN – National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute. For this very reason, the construction is more compact and surrounded by greenery, with a garden designed by renowned landscape designer Alex Hanazaki.

The Fuso has 13 private, glass-enclosed bungalows that allow for integration with nature. All of them are extremely comfortable, with a cool and cozy atmosphere, and nine of them have private pools. The hotel was designed by architect Eduarda Tonietto with striking, minimalist features in a contemporary language. It values national design with furniture signed by names like Sérgio Rodrigues and Jader Almeida.

The sunset is a highlight in the late afternoon on the main deck. But if you want to go further, Fuso offers exclusive experiences such as dinner with a personalized menu served on the terrace, yoga practice, kitesurfing classes, diving at Arvoredo Island, and the delicious Gaya Spa.

In terms of gastronomy, chef Quevedo runs an avant-garde cuisine in partnership with Lui Veronese, in which regional ingredients of the highest quality are prioritized. It is worth remembering that Santa Catarina has famous cuisine.

END OF THE YEAR AT THE CHILOÉ ARCHIPELAGO

The year has flown by, the routine is slowly getting reorganized and more than ever we need to celebrate life. An incredible destination in Chile for a family New Year’s Eve is Chiloé. An archipelago made up of more than 30 islands with paradisiacal scenery, famous for the houses built on stilts. If nature, luxury and tranquility are among your New Year’s Eve plans, this is a great tip.

The city of Castro, where the region’s airport is located, serves as the gateway for those visiting Chiloé. The Tierra Chiloé hotel is one of the most charming and exclusive in the archipelago. Built of wood, with a design that integrates with the exuberant nature of the archipelago, the hotel translates the essence of the local culture.

It has 24 rustic and comfortable rooms, a delightful spa, a beautiful swimming pool, and serves drinks and Chilean gastronomic recipes made with seasonal products.

As for the tours, don’t worry about a thing. Tierra Chloé has more than 20 options of tours – full day or half day – for all ages and all levels of difficulty, always accompanied by specialized guides.

You can do the tours on foot, horseback, or bicycle to Quento Beach or to the town of San José. A RANCH TO CALL YOUR OWN

Sometimes all you need is to take off your shoes, step on the sand, slow down, feel the energy of the sun beating down on your skin, and let the wind ruffle your hair. So I’ll give you a hint of a refuge in the quiet village of Preá, in Ceará, 30 minutes from Jericoacoara: Rancho do Peixe.

Well, this Inn on the sand has managed to transform lodging into art. Its 26 bungalows are huge, with 80 square meters of charm and were made with reused wood, on stilts, with sustainability present in every detail. Its architecture is so ingenious that it privileges the natural circulation of the air, you won’t even miss air conditioning. The decor has a lot of character, bed with mosquito net, sofas with colorful cheetah pillows, bathroom open to nature. It’s all connected with the local culture. Lots of rusticity mixed with sophistication and comfort. The inn belongs to the e-group and has the Elegant Circuit seal.

For those who love sea and wind sports, the Rancho do Peixe inn is right in the “World Kitesurfing Mecca” and has become a reference for sailors all over the world, in addition to receiving couples looking for tranquility and families with children. The wind season runs from July to December and attracts kites and windsurfers. In the other months, the wind calms down and the paradisiacal beaches and lagoons set the tone.

And speaking of lagoons, don’t miss the Lagoas Azul and Lagoas do Paraíso. They are connected and form a large pond. For lunch I recommend the B&B restaurant, on the shores of Lagoa do Paraíso. Make reservations in advance and take the opportunity to take a dip, relax in the hammocks that hang in the water and go stand up paddle.

Also go to Praia da Barrinha, which is 6 kilometers from Praia do Preá and walk through the unspoiled dunes. For lunch in Barrinha I recommend the Komaki restaurant, which is rustic and delicious. The low tide time makes everything even more beautiful.

With time, go to Jericoacoara which is 12 kilometers away and has tasty restaurants like Vila K, Tamarindo, Ello and Na Casa Dela. Also, walk around the shops to take a look at the clothes made by the crocheters in the region and don’t miss the classic sunset on the dune.

This is a trip that will take you into a more tranquil pace, enjoy nature, and who knows, take advantage of the powerful winds of the region to take some kite or windsurfing lessons.

IMMERSION IN THE AMAZON RAINFOREST AT JUMA AMAZON LODGE

Arriving in the Amazon means discovering a parallel universe. An unknown world, mystical, strong, enchanted and surprising from the first moment to the last. It is a place where your senses are heightened as everything takes on great proportions: the symphony of birds, the designs formed by the trees in the jungle, the grandeur of the rivers, the darkness of the night, the power of the sun. Everything is so alive, so vast, but at the same time so lonely, that you have the distinct feeling of being swallowed by the magnitude of the forest as if you were a tiny grain of sand. No matter how hard I try, I won’t be able to clearly explain the whirlwind of emotions that will be awakened.

Start by choosing a very remote lodge in the Amazon Rainforest, one that you need to get to by boat, but that has a good structure for you to feel safe while exploring the rich fauna and flora of this region that holds great cultural potions of indigenous and riverine peoples. My tip is the Juma Amazon Lodge.

The hotel was born more than 20 years ago, in an area of 7 thousand hectares completely preserved, three hours away by boat or 30 minutes by seaplane, from Manaus. Its main differential is the forest itself. It has 19 rustic and comfortable bungalows, all of them with hammocks on the veranda. The restaurant is delicious, with typical regional cuisine. Juma Lodge has an incredible river pool, all protected by screens so that the animals don’t cause any surprises.

It is the perfect alternative to have an authentic experience of connecting with the Amazon and disconnecting from the digital world as there is no television and Wi-Fi is very limited. Experience forest walks, canoe rides along rivers, alligator spotting at night, dolphin watching, contact with the riverside population and the feeling of living in another time and space.

The Amazon Rainforest enters through your pores with such force that you will never forget the gifts of respect, belonging, reverence, poetry, and spirituality that Mother Nature will subtly blow through. I recommend living a jungle immersion! A remarkable and transforming experience.

There are many shades of blue. But, the Cayo Guillermo turquoise is unique. I guarantee that you will not find another sea like this easily around the world. I’ve been to Cuba twice, I circled the island from end to end and Cayo Guillermo was where I left my heart. White sand, hundreds of starfish and that divine blue. Now you want to know the tricks of the trade?

Cayo Guillermo acquired a Kempinski hotel a year ago for you to immerse yourself in the private universe of Ernest Hemingway. The American writer maintained for years a summer house in Playa Pilar, where he arrived with his boat named “Pilar”, hence the name. A place that inspired many of the author’s works, among them “The Old Man and the Sea”. His house no longer exists. But the story is still alive!

It was there that the beautiful Kempinski Cayo Guillermo was born! The project recreates the bow of a ship that advances towards the sea. And it is not just any sea. It’s “that” sea !!! It is Cayo Guillermo, more precisely, Pilar Beach. If an overwater bungalow is your dream, know that the resort has six overwater villas in addition to the 245 apartments in the central building. And brand new. The pandemic stopped the world a month after its inauguration, but soon it will reopen its doors.

It is a place to walk barefoot in the sand, meditate, relax, date and read a good book having that insane turquoise blue as company. Fresh fish, caught right there, are part of the hotel’s kitchen. And since we are talking about Cuba, of course there is a Cigar Bar. After all, they produce some of the best cigars in the world.

Access from Havana can be done by car or bus, covering 600 kilometers of ground. It was my option to visit Cienfuegos and Trinidad, colonial cities along the way. There are also flights from Havana to Cayo Coco, the islet on the side.

Visit Cuba soon, before the island becomes too uncharacteristic. Remember to book everything well in advance as the logistics are still very complicated. Renting a car, for example, is not an easy task. There are few cars circulating and all very expensive to rent.

Program yourself and go. Cuba is a world apart. And Playa Pilar has one of the bluest blues on the planet. Combine Havana and Cayo Guillermo and you will not regret it!

POUSADA RABO DO LAGARTO, A CAPIXABA TREASURE

That Brazil is immense and beautiful everyone already knows. But that the countryside of Espírito Santo is wonderful, maybe it will be a surprise for you. After all, when talking about a Brazilian state bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, it is assumed that the beaches are the highlight. But do you want to know the truth? The city of Domingos Martins, where the State Parks of Pedra Azul and Forno Grande are located, is the big star with its natural pools, in addition to having an ultra romantic route called “Rota do Lagarto” that will leave you totally in love.

So let’s take it in parts. The first step is to choose a hotel as special as the region. And here’s a powerful tip. You know a place that exudes love everywhere? Flowery. Full of color. Illuminated. Elegant. Surrounded by greenery. Sophisticated. And at the foot of the immense monolith of Pedra Azul that can almost be touched from the balconies. This is the Pousada Rabo do Lagarto. For you to have a more accurate idea of what I’m talking about, let’s just say that it is considered one of the best inns in Brazil. It has only 17 suites. Each one with its own unique decoration. But, all of them super whimsical. I chose the Zermatt Suite for my 4-day stay and I recommend it. It has a fireplace for the coldest days (after all it is in the mountains, at over a thousand meters of altitude), a hot tub to relax after doing the many must-see trails in the region and a lacy canopy bed. Cozier than this? impossible!

Another fundamental point for this pandemic moment, which requires care and isolation, is that the inn follows the Safe & Clean protocols developed by the Circuito Elegante hotel team. This gives a lot of tranquility during the lodging. Havaianas sandals are kindly provided for you to leave your shoes outside; after guests enter the accommodation, no one else enters, there is no daily cleaning service (fantastic for this phase that will pass!); the buffet breakfast was replaced by a Happy Box, which comes sealed, and can be served at any time the guest wants. And so on. Very nice!

In terms of location, it couldn’t be more perfect. Pousada Rabo do Lagarto is located 100 kilometers from Vitória, at the entrance of the Romantic Route, a 7 km stretch full of craft shops, cafes and restaurants, which you can walk from the hotel. Without a car you can easily reach Marietta Delicatessen, Tuia Gastronomia e Arte, Taruira Food Truck, the Da Tutte Mani store … Walking a little further are the Alecrim and Dom Due restaurants. Very good!

If you do the trail, I recommend the Pedra Azul, with a 6 km extension (round trip) with a beautiful dip in the natural pools, and the Forno Grande, 3 km (round trip) with two waterfalls along the way, gazebo and natural pools. From the Gods!!!

CANOUAN TO DREAM IN SHADES OF BLUE

Finally the vaccine against all this madness caused by the coronavirus is coming. But, it will still take a little time for us to have security to travel freely around the world. Isolated places are still the best choice for now. And in terms of exclusivity, the island of Canouan, located in the heart of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in the archipelago of the Grenadines, in the Caribbean, leads the way.

In this little piece of paradise, the Mandarin Oriental Canouan reigns absolute with its 26 suites and 14 extremely tasteful colonial style villas. It is the only hotel on the island and one of the most luxurious destinations in the Caribbean. The rooms are huge, the decor has details in pink, the bathroom is gigantic and all in marble. The property has a marina, golf course, tennis court, children’s structure, a great spa, stunning blue beaches, white sand and one of the largest natural coral reefs in the Caribbean. The place is so isolated and special that it has become a stronghold of celebrities.

The main beach at Mandarin Oriental Canouan is Godahl Beach, facing the Atlantic Ocean. However, there are several others, less busy and even with beach clubs for guests, within the state park where the hotel is located, which can be accessed with a golf cart, such as Shell Beach and L’Ance Guyac Beach. Keep in mind that the infinity pool will also steal your heart. In addition, you can take boat trips to the neighboring islets and for the more adventurous, there are hiking trails with incredible views.

There are five restaurants within the hotel. All very good and with impeccable service. And there are four others at the Grenadines Estate, a private property that occupies 2/3 of the island, where the hotel is located.

Right now, remote places like the Mandarin Oriental Canouan are the best choice. The island can be accessed from Barbados, Granada or Santa Lucia, via Miami or Panama City.

YACHT LA PINTA TO SAIL THE GALAPAGOS

The biggest question on a trip to the Galapagos is how to explore the archipelago in the best way. After all, there are 19 small islands and 13 slightly larger ones, of which only 4 are inhabited. And each of them keeps its own secrets. Stay on land or throw yourself into the sea? The answer is easy. If you are not one of those people who easily get seasick, take a cruise! It will be easier to access all the corners of this paradise. How long? As long as you can. Galapagos is unbelievable! What boat? Yacht La Pinta. Perfect!!!

I arrived at Yacht La Pinta after doing a lot of research on the Galapagos. I wanted a boat that was small, safe, comfortable, attentive to the environment and with good safety protocols in this pandemic moment. I found it! The Yacht La Pinta is one of the 3 boats belonging to the company Metropolitan Touring that was created exactly with the objective of helping in the environmental preservation of the archipelago that had been suffering from attacks by pirates.

The boat is super charming, has 24 cabins and capacity for 48 passengers. It was recently renovated and its design is contemporary. The rooms are large and well lit. In the bathroom L’Occitane amenities that I love. In addition, the staff is all very kind. The tours are made in groups of a maximum of 11 people so as not to make the animals uncomfortable. Naturalistic guides accompany and explain everything about the species of the archipelago that are beyond exotic. Hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle, boat ride with glass bottom and snorkeling are among the activities available for the adventure. And what an adventure!

I chose a 5-day tour of the eastern islands of the archipelago and regretted not having stayed twice as long. Galapagos is awesome. Each island has its peculiarities. I started the cruise on the island of Baltra, where the airport is. The first stop was at Plaza Sul Island for a sunset trek. As a company, sea lions, land iguanas and hundreds of birds taking care of their young. An emotion like no other. And at each stop, the scenery changed, the animals showed their differences in terms of adaptation and the surprises only increased. On the island of Santa Fé live iguanas of an orange tone that only exist there. In San Cristobal the stars were the giant tortoises that weigh up to 400 kilos. Walking on the beach of Cerro Brujo, where Darwin landed in 1835 is more than special. On the island of Española we were greeted by a school of dolphins before taking a walk among hundreds of marine iguanas.

You know when it’s time to go and you’re not ready to leave yet? It was like that in the Galápagos. What a dream of a place. A trip that brings a lot of reflection and beautiful teachings.
