Denim Trends: Mom Jeans

A few years ago, skinny jeans were the only denim style anyone wanted to wear. Fast forward to 2020 and skinny jeans are in significantly lower demand and there’s a new denim style getting all of the attention: Mom jeans. That’s right, the silhouette that’s fitted around the hips and then tapered through the rest of the leg is officially the jean style of the moment. It has a more relaxed vibe than skinny jeans, yet still feels polished and flatters your shape. Mom jeans are also typically more comfortable than skinny jeans since they aren’t quite as tight all over, giving you a bit more room to breathe.

Styling this denim silhouette may seem challenging but it’s actually surprisingly easy. Think of them as you would a typical skinny jean and pair them with everything in your closet. Mom jeans look ultra-chic with oversize blazers, chunky sweaters, and long coats in the winter, while they look equally cool with bodysuits, t-shirts, and puffy-sleeve tops in the spring. If you can stand to wear denim in the summer, throw on a crop top and sandals with your favorite pair of mom jeans and your outfit is set. The slightly loose silhouette adds an effortless vibe to anything you choose to wear them with, which is a welcome change from the feeling of restriction that skinny jeans can sometimes present.

Almost every denim brand has jumped on this trend by now, many offering numerous different variations of the mom jean silhouette. Brands like Re/Done, GRLFRND, and Agolde have cool, modern takes on this style, while heritage brands like Levi’s are offering the same classic silhouette they’ve popularized for decades. Then of course affordable retailers have also caught on, with brands like & Other Stories and Zara producing chic mom jeans with under-$100 price tags.

Look of the Day: Jeans & Silk Top

I have a love affair for a silk top with jeans – seriously !!! It is one of the combinations that makes me feel the most sophisticated and comfortable, and also that I can wear on several occasions. We Brazilians love jeans, right? And the silk piece helps give that OOMPH to the ensemble, leaving the look more feminine and tidy!

Jeans is undoubtedly my favorite piece in the wardrobe, especially in my day to day life! I love a relaxed and casual look (especially when I’m in my Boston, which has this super chill vibe). But I LOVE mixing jeans with pieces in nobler fabrics, like silk – the combination is young, modern and sophisticated (with that “I did not try too hard” touch, you know?). Haha!

Today’s look was like this, a straight cut jeans with a striped silk blouse which has a neck tie! I finalized with black clog heels and a purse with details in gold, which gave a touch of light!

Every woman loves a good pair of jeans, after all, this is one of the most versatile pieces that we have in our wardrobe. Just choose the right model and with it you will be able to put together various looks that may have a cool or even more sophisticated vibe, and the best thing is that it wears well in any occasion. My favorite nowadays are the high waisted with a straight cut.

For today’s look, the protagonist was a leather jacket, filled with multicolor patchwork, which could have matched with a pair of black pants for a classic look, but I opted for jeans, which left the ensemble more youthful and current! I finalized with blue sock boots for a touch of color. Check it out:

Look – Jeans & Puffy Jacket

I have already told you how much I love Autumn in Boston, right? The city becomes even more charming and I took advantage that one of my best friends, Allan, came to visit me for Thanksgiving and we took a day to explore the city and take some pictures. Today’s post is to show you the casual and warm look that I wore!

The shorter version of puffy jackets are super in right now, and I love it because they are very warm! Haha. I wore a really charming one in caramel with white and red stripes and added a white blouse underneath. To compose the look, I chose a pair of high waist jeans that I love and white pointy toe mules. How wonderful to spend a few days in Miami this time of the when Boston is so cold. Miami is still pretty much in a summer climate. I came for an event with Caudalie and I gotta say I am enjoying every second around here!

I came to show you the look I wore the same day I got here (yes! I arrived and already went on a stroll. Haha). I chose a casual chic and super cool look with cropped jeans and a stripe lace up top. I finalized with suede mule sandals which gave the look a more modern and cool vibe! Check it out:

Ladies!!!

I have been more and more in love with ruffles, the super 80’s trend is back at full force this season! I saw it in practically every show, specially in Paris!

For today’s look (which I wore to check out Helo Rocha’s show during SPFW) I chose a gorgeous silk blouse with ruffles all over. I chose a pair of jeans to break up the romantic vibe a bit and finished off with black and white mules for an even cooler touch to the look! Check it out!

Silk top, jeans, and sneakers!

Summer makes me soo happy! It’s the season where I have the most energy and that I feel the best! The weather truly makes my mood better, you know?!

Today’s look was one that I wore this week: feminine and super relaxed at the same time. I wore distressed denim shorts with a super delicate lace-up top with ruffle details on the neckline. I finalized with super cool metallic platform sneakers which gave a modern touch to the look! I also added a belt and a black purse for an edgier vibe to this romantic look.

Trendy: Denim accessories for your look of the day!

Denim has never been so present in outfits with such different styles. A few years ago this fabric was only used for more informal occasions, however today’s fashion allows us to play with textures and overlays, and blue jeans is most desired when creating a look with style.

Whether its a jacket, pants, blouse or top; what really matters is knowing how to match and create a mix with certain pieces. Why not wear denim to a more formal event? Mixing a denim shirt with a Midi skirt? I love creating this type of hi-low and this is a great style trick for when we want to change up our looks and leave the basics aside, don’t you think?!

Denim accessories has also become a main focus in fashion. Inspired on this trend, Coach created a beautiful collection of denim handbags, which was launched in Brazil this month of June!

With them, it’s possible to give a special touch to your day-to-day looks and the cool thing about it is that styles are functional and super stylish. The handbags come with silhouettes already known by the brand and that I love and wear so much, such as: Mercer, swagger and Mini Backpack, however with blue jeans as the protagonist. The best thing is that there is a style for all tastes: it’s also possible to find them in patchwork, smooth/plain denim fabric and even mixed with different fabrics.

I am absolutely in love, especially with the backpacks!

Look of the day: Poncho and jeans

Loves!

Fall is here and I admit that this is my favorite season to create looks – actually for most people, right?! Haha. Its a nice cold and we don’t have to layer on so much clothes. Leather jackets, ponchos, and even longer coats are perfect options for a third piece. Time to take the boots out of the closet, baby. Haha. I love it!

I put together a super warm and confortable look to run some errands this week. I wore jeans, a brown turtleneck and I threw over a big and colorfull poncho on top for an extra charm to the look. I finalized the look with caramel tone knee high boots with an orange purse. Check it out:
